2007 / 2008 COMMITTEE MEMBERS

President - Madge Corbitt

Although Madge isn't the founding member of West London her involvement in the club dates back to the middle ages. If you have the opportunity to corner her at one of the club's many social events she will be able to entertain you with stories of when the club used to play with shrunken heads of past opponents instead of today's solid rubber ball that we all know and love. We believe that she is the only surviving member to have actually participated in one particular ritual which was lost several hundred years ago that the new committee may like to reinstate - the pre match chest pounding and side slapping similar to the New Zealand Hakka!  For more details on either and many more exhilarating histories I refer you to our President, Madge!  The guiding force behind the club and number cruncher extraordinaire!

Chairman - Clare Anderson

Secretary - Prina Mandavia

Treasurer - Georgie Curry

Georgie is one of the newbies to West London Lacrosse Club, and has yet to complete a full season. Saying that she’s created enough of an impression to get herself on the new committee for 2007/8 as our brand spanking new Treasurer! In her short time with us, she’s played for both teams and is normally found darting around the centre circle, either playing as an attack or defence! Yet to be christened with a WL nickname, so for now we’ll call her Miss Versatile… any other suggestions are more than welcome

1st Team Captains - Annabel Thorburn and Sarah Gordon

Annabel excelled herself as 1st team captain last season by not only leading the team to victory in the premier division, but by taking excellent training sessions and always being among the front runners in the dash for the dance floor.  Her competitive streak and dedication to West London as a club, combined with the ability to use all those brains under her mass of auburn curls was a key factor in the clubs recent success.  Somehow she also found the time to score vital goals for the East of England and Scotland.  Her challenge this season will be to devise ways in which she can improve on her performance last year.

Having excelled herself as social secretary in the 06/07 season Sarah has been “promoted” to 1st team captain. Her winning combination of level headedness (in one so young),  and just a hint of crazyness should make her a great choice to lead the team. Sarah can be distinguished on the pitch by her bandana, her shorts (everyone else will be in leggings but for one raised in Aberdeen it's never really cold enough in London to justify covering up) and her willingness to throw herself between ball and goal as the penultimate line of defense. Provided she can fit lacrosse in between rocks and sailing Sarah will no doubt make as great a captain as she did social sec!

2nd Team Captains - Monette Montagu and Polly McGivern

What can one say about the legendary Monette – last season she successfully guided the 2nds to winning the Rosebowl and coming 2nd in the 1st division all this virtually single-handedly and quite often with a hangover which makes it all the more remarkable!  Stoically shoring up the team, our last man in defence supports and motivates her team with comments such as “what the hell are you doing here” when you’re out of position.  Not the most prolific goal-scorer, the 06/07 season provided Monette’s first goal for West London, if only it had been in the opposition’s goal….  West London’s most successful 2nd team captain long may she bring us luck on the pitch and entertainment in the pub.

Perhaps we should not admit that we had to plead, beg, coerce, and finally bribe Polly to take up the mantle of 2nd Team Captain…….. "been there, done that and bought the T-shirt (and the 80's hairband)" I believe was the response.  Polly has been a staunch member of the club for longer that most people can remember (although we don't think she goes as far back as the 80's), and she has done her   'time' on the committee as she likes to remind us.  However, how could she resist the pleads of so many characters to save them from the nagging of that 'mean teacher'.   Polly is an often-unappreciated lynchpin of the 2nd team – her awareness of the game is second-to-none and she is always there to fill gaps, offer advice, provide back up and occasionally go for glory herself.   Her mature attitude, and calm, quiet contributions (both on the pitch and off) disguise a Bjorn Borg attitude (yes, you guessed it… complete with the hairband….) of determination and commitment .   Her in depth knowledge and understanding of the game and intelligent approach to team tactics is exactly what the team needs!

Rosebowl Captains - Emily Wickham and Katie Dunwoody

One half of the double act tweedle dee Katie, a new addition to the club last season is renowned for her sprints up the right wing and pin point accuracy in front of goal. Although a new member Katie has already acheived highly at the club giving Jules and Annabel tough competition in the top scorers table and was voted most valuable player for the second team...Katie is ready to take on the challenge of retaining the Rosebowl championship next year with her stern yet effective leadership skills!!

Em (also known as tweedle-dum) will usually be found down in front of goal, dodging defence with her impressive stick-work and even making the occasional sprint up the wing to show off her (questionable) defensive skills! Though she was a new member of the club last season, she has made impressions with her moves both on the pitch and on the dance floor! She’s now ready for the challenge of leading the Rosebowl team through another successful year, with her trusty side-kick Tweedle-dee!!

Fixtures - Ali Hankey

Ali (A-lie) states she plays for the "We Love Lacrosse Club" when referring to West London! Perhaps she should be our new marketing director rather than dealing with the fixtures?!?! Her long legs help her up and down the lacrosse pitch but she's also famed for completing the marathon in 2007 and is frequently spotted on her pushbike in and around town. Off the pitch Ali has a secret desire to be a supermarket checkout girl (when you hear the beep ...)

Publicity / Website - Alice Froggatt

Best known as "Frog" or "team geek", our bubbly blonde is a vivacious club member.
Not only is Frog a bullet-like asset on the field, but she is also a wizz on the non-playing side of the club. First, Frog is the technical genius of the team. She is recognised as the team "geek" due to her penchant for computers. The West London website is testament to this. Not only creator of West London's fantastic website, Frog is also the tireless website updator. She assures us she really enjoys it! And she's certainly good at it! Second, Frog is a key participator in the club's social scene. Ever the fancy dress enthusiast, both at training sessions, and in the pub, Frog was seen sporting a number of outfits, most memorably a fetching tesco carrier bag as quiz master at the most fantastic pub quiz of 2006. What crazy outfits and web additions can we look forward to from Frog this season?!!

Kit - Becky Lees

If Becky is as focused on our kit as she is on her drinking & chatting then we will continue to look the “mutt’s nuts” this season (07/08). Becky is approachable, kind and funny and is one of the smallest people in the club, so she will be able to empathise with those of you who require extra small items!
On & off the pitch, Becky is a dedicated team player, who loves to knock back the white wine at our regular socials. She may seem like a little bit of a space cadet at times, but don’t let that fool you…
p.s. You can identify Becky by her unusual Aussie/Kiwi/English accent!

Social Secretary - Shosh Abrams and Lou Scott

Lou is one of the shortest members of West London and spend much of her time filling in gaps and running from one end of the pitch to another. After putting down her stick in 2003, she has quickly regained her skills playing territorials and Wales U21 last season. Her summer 2007 was spent coaching lacrosse in America and hopefully learning the rules by the time she returns. Whilst on tour in Cardiff last season Lou demonstrated why she is the perfect candidate for social sec (not that she remembers!). As a trainee teacher she is sure to keep socials in order an ensure that everyone follows correct drinking etiquette!

New to West London last season, it was soon clear that Shosh is one of those people you just can't play without; a goalkeeper! As wellas being a sadist she is one of the more youthful club members who has played for Junior South and won BUSA gold twice whilst at Loughborough. Her high standards were behind us - literally - all the way in our successful 2006/7 season and we can now look forward to them urging us into restaurants, bars and nightclubs as she fulfills her new role as social secretary! Shosh will begin the season fresh from travelling to... pretty mucheverywhere in the world. Living in north London she claims to know nothing of the bars south of the river; sceptics may suggest this is
just an excuse for having to 'test' them beforehand! Whatever Shoshhas planned will no doubt meet and exceed the expectations of all,and who knows, maybe the first social will have an International theme...

Tour - Tiff Broome

Tiff is an indispensable and feisty but deafening defence, who definitely deserved the MOUTH prize (although I can’t remember what the acronym stands for – monstrous, oral, utilisation, something, something…..?).  Goalies, I am sure, breathe a sigh of relief when they see Tiff in front of them!

A girl about town, who appears knows just about everyone means we have high expectations of the 2008 Durham tour organiser!  The lofty standards have been set by the infamous Miss Wood and Miss Broome has accepted the challenge.
